Item analysis on Intermolecular Forcees and Heating Curves Quiz
According to Cascade, students struggled with Numbers 7-9 most.
Number 7 - Is this an understanding polarity concern, a test question concern or a sequence or instruction concern.
Number 8 - Need to review that topic more thoroughly and teach with more repetitiveness. Perhaps be more clear or write the sentences differently.
These questions (7-8) may need to be moved to the next unit. It may be better suited with the solubility unit.
Number 6 - Students probably saw "Weakest" and chose A-B and because it was at the bottom of the graph. They don't know the heating curve or they didn't look at the graph and assumed that weak meant low.
Need to look at more graphs for next year, particularly for the ACT.

1/15/19 - Backward planning
Attendance: Stevens, D. Smith, Vanegas, Roy
Skittles Activity (Balancing) starts tomorrow.
Stevens - Some students are struggling with the difference between the coefficient and the subscript of the formulas. ex: 3O2 is 6 atoms...
Roy suggestions- have the students make posters for the classroom for the students to refer back to during instruction.
Today's PLC - Quiz Backward Planning
Students need to be able to Balance, Show how to balance, identify parts of the equation, write equations, write equations from words, identifying endo- and exothermic and tell why... take that information and draw a potential energy diagram. Students need to be able to process reading. (Use Roller Coasters to relate to real world application.) Be able to analyze potential energy diagrams.
Do we want a short answer quiz or a multiple choice quiz. Mr. Stevens has trouble getting them to answer short answer diagrams with fidelity. Suggestions included putting "lines" for all the answers that the students need to respond to in order to show students how much of the answer they need to answer and then it helps with grading.
Stevens will create the balancing and identifying portions. Vanegas will create the rest. Store quiz in google drive.
Quiz to be written by 1/22 to review in PLC. Quiz to be tentatively administered 2/1
(Students responded well to the scaffolded worksheets from last week!)
